BSc(Hons),HCPC Paramedic, ILS Instructor
My career in healthcare took a rather unexpected route.
After leaving school with few qualifications, I started on a YTS scheme in animal care, which led to a placement in a veterinary practice.
After further training, I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse, becoming one of only 17 male veterinary nurses in the country at the time.
My interest in medicine eventually led me to London, where a chance meeting opened the door to a new career. In 1996, I joined the London Ambulance Service and trained as a Paramedic.
In 1999, I returned to my native Wirral and joined Mersey Regional Ambulance Service, now North West Ambulance Service. I continue to work part-time as a frontline Paramedic across Merseyside and Cheshire, while sharing my knowledge and experience through first aid training.
After years in emergency medicine, I've seen first-hand just how important those first few minutes can be. That's why I believe first aid training should be practical, engaging and give people the confidence to act when it matters most.
I now live in North Wales with my long-term partner, our two young sons and, unsurprisingly, a house full of animals!
