What you will learn

HSE FAW Syllabus (3 day)


On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to: 

  • understand the role of the first-aider including: 

  1. the importance of preventing cross infection
  2. the need for recording incidents and actions
  3. use of available equipment
  4. assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in   an emergency

  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizures)
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)
  • administer first aid to a casualty with: 

  1. injuries to bones,- muscles and joints( including suspected spinal injuries)
  2. chest injuries
  3. burns and scalds
  4. eye injuries
  5. sudden poisoning
  6. anaphylactic shock

  • recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid for someone suffering from:

  1. heart attack
  2. stroke
  3. epilepsy
  4. asthma
  5. diabetes 

Emergency First Aid at Work ( 1 day )

 This Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work  is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, to provide first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations.


This is an entry level first aid course and is more suited to those working in a low risk working environment.


 It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities. 

During this 1 day course, learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations, including:

  •  managing an unresponsive casualty
  •  CPR
  •  choking
  •  shock
  •  wounds
  •  bleeding
  •  minor injuries
